Dr Amirthakadeswarar

I am a professor of public health in the United States and have been taking Tamil lessons with Dr. Amirthakadeswarar for a month now. I am incredibly impressed by the breath of his knowledge of Tamil and by his love for the language and his dedication to impart that love to his students. To learn a language well, it is not enough merely to learn the vocabulary and the grammar. It is also incumbent upon the student to deeply understand the roots of the language and to appreciate its inherent beauty, through exposure to its poetry and literature. My desire to learn Tamil is to improve my ability to be able to communicate with communities about the science of public health, and while we learn that, Dr. A also shares his bountiful expertise about the history and culture underlying the language. He is a kind and patient teacher and is a pleasure to work with him. I can say with confidence that it is extremely rare to find another teacher like him and I strongly recommend him.

My professor has a vast knowledge of Tamil and world culture, history, ancient customs. His classes are absolutely brilliant!

Prof Amirthakadeswarar is a scholar of Tamil language and literature. This means he is able to help students to not only speak and read Tamil but also understand the grammar. He can explain the language to all levels. For these reasons, he is a rare teacher on this platform. I encourage all who are interested in learning tamil to take a lesson from him.

Very good! I live in the USA and can speak Tamil conversationally because my family speaks it at home. I wanted to be able to understand Tamil lyrics in songs more. I practice the lyrics before class, and then we go through the meanings together. He provides context about Tamil culture, history, and language during our discussions about the songs. He is very responsive over text and phone for any doubts I have between classes! I highly recommend his class.

I am enjoying my tamil lessons with Dr Amirthakadeswarar. I've learnt a lot of new words in today's lesson by reading out aloud a story. Dr Amirthakadeswarar gives a lot of tips and suggestions on various ways of using words and its various forms. We also listened to a song by the famous tamil actor MGR and I learnt many new words from it.
