I've had a few lessons with Takuya San at this point, and I can confidently say he's a great teacher! For me personally, as a beginner, I really struggle with listening comprehension. I think the fact that Takuya uses direct method of teaching is really forcing me to listen carefully and kind of "switch my brain" if that makes sense. In addition, I'm always surprised by how quickly the time passes. I think this is because there are so many activities packed into each lesson. It all feels very dynamic and engaging. In addition, he has a very positive and patient spirit, so you feel at ease and comfortable making mistakes. Finally, I wanted to add that his schedule is super packed with classes yet somehow, he always comes to class very prepared. I really appreciate him as a teacher and would highly recommend him, even for someone who is a beginner like me!

Takuya-san is an inspiration of a teacher (and human, more generally). He comes to class with a gentle, affirming energy that creates a welcoming environment where it’s safe to try out new sentences, make mistakes, and learn from them. The effort he puts into his students’ success is very evident and is extra motivation for me to put in the time outside of class — reviewing his notes, listening to his recordings, writing my own journals — to make sure our class time is used well. Somehow, he is both exceedingly professional and relatable at the same time. He is clearly an experienced instructor and has a wealth of innovative language games, role plays, and discussion topics that can be easily integrated into lessons when we have a few minutes left of unplanned time. I’m grateful and truly lucky to have Takuya-san as a guide for my Japanese language journey!

I just completed a lesson package with Takuya-san! After taking classes with teachers across different languages (mainly French and Japanese) and platforms, I now have a pretty good understanding of what teaching style I prefer. I really appreciate how structured and personalized Takuya-san's lessons are, as I find that some guided conversation classes can wind up being repetitive or uninteresting after some time. I especially love that he sends a PDF of each lesson afterwards stored within a designated Google Drive folder - truly a godsend as I don't have to scroll through old chat messages while compiling my study notes. Not to mention, he is also very patient and supportive! You can tell that he puts a lot of effort into tailoring his lessons for each student's needs, which makes me feel even more motivated to review each lesson and study on my own!

I just finished Genki I with the help of Takuya. We go through Genki, but he provides much more than that. He always points out all the various nuances with the grammar points you are learning; when it's natural to use a phrase or when a variation might sound more natural. He also recognizes when you are struggling with a certain grammar point by creating a lot of extra practice on the fly and writing detailed notes for review. If you work with him for a while, you won't get a cookie cutter lesson either. As he's gotten to know me as a student, I've seen the various little ways he's made adjustments to the lesson to best support me as a learner. I also want to point out that no matter how much you are struggling to formulate a sentence, you'll never feel any kind of judgement from him. He exudes patience and kindness. He's a meticulous and intentional teacher who has deep empathy for how challenging learning a language is. Thank you Takuya, I'm so grateful to have you as my teacher!
