I am a linguist whose mother tongues are Castilian Spanish 🏰 and Galician, with a deep passion for foreign languages and cultures, as well as for linguistics and translation. Throughout my life, I have studied numerous languages, both living and extinct, achieving fluency in two: English and Portuguese.
In addition to my background in language and translation, I have pursued formal training in tourism ✈️, as I am passionate about sharing my Galician heritage. However, prior to applying to Italki, my career primarily focused on teaching English as a Second Language (ESL).
In my free time, I enjoy reading, sketching with art supplies 🎨 and spending time outdoors.Minha atuação como professor
Ever since I graduated from university, I have worked as a translator 💻 and a foreign language teacher. I have provided private tutoring and have collaborated with several companies and town councils 🏛️, which led me to specialise in adult education through an official training course.

I am fully convinced that languages can only be learned through effort and practice. However, a lot people believe that native teachers can simply transfer their mother tongue into their students' brains. 🧠 To my mind, learning a language requires focus and discipline. What teachers can do is to coach students along the learning process.

Gonzalo is a great teacher. The lessons are always fluid and informational and each one has been tailored to my level while keeping me just out of my comfort zone (which is where we learn the most!) He speaks perfect English so it makes it that much easier to get clarification and explanations for anything I don't know. Highly recommend!

Gonzalo is an awesome teacher!
I'm learning Spanish and Galician with him. He is very professional, but also fun and interesting. He values your input for what you'd like to get from a class, but is clearly very experienced and has no problems guiding the class so that you get the most out of it.
His feedback is really helpful and constructive, and he is really effective at making you feel comfortable enough to speak a lot and make mistakes/ ask questions without feeling embarrassed.
I feel like I'm learning a lot, and the classes are fun, so I look forward to them each week. His English is also impeccable.
10/10 would recommend:)

He tenido una maravillosa experiencia de aprender español con Gonzalo. Hemos prestado especial atención a la construcción de oraciónes en el modo subjuntivo, el uso correcto de artículos definidos e indefenidos. He ganado experiencia en la escritura de ensayos. He ampliado mucho mi vocabulario. Mi nivél subió desde B2 hasta C1. Gonzalo en un profesor muy profesional y una buena persona positiva. My first lesson with Gonzalo was great! He’s clear and patient, very knowledgeable about not only Galician but also Spanish and Portuguese, so we had a wonderful overview about relationships between these languages. He gave a lot of examples to illustrate the similarities and differences. I got exactly what I want. I will love to continue learning Galician with him if my time allows! Recommended.
