I’ve been working on italki for nearly five years. I’ve taught hundreds of students here, and I have become friends with many of them. He was a beginner to Chinese when we started, but now he can communicate effectively with Chinese companies without needing a translator. I also taught English to middle school students. As a languege learner myself, I believe that having fun in the learning process is very important to keep the motivation up and up.

I faced difficulties learning languages. I still do, actually. Language is primarily a tool of communication. Its purpose is to exchange information. Therefore, speaking and listening should make up the lion share of your study. That's what a tutor is for! As for vocabulary, we often memorize individual words, only to forget them soon after. I believe reading articles of your level (or slightly higher) is a much more efficient way to come across phrases and words in context. Context is everything!
