I was born in the north-east (东北) of China and I grew up in Jiangsu (江苏) with a very neutral 普通话 accent. I have lived in the UK for a while, with a master's degree in Anthropology with distinction from the University of Oxford. My hobbies: Belly dancing, Salsa dancing, Bachata, Tango, Pilate, Recorder, playing with my mechanical keyboard, reading books (mainly non-fiction and academic books), listening to podcasts about health, mental health, neural science, cultures, visiting museums, learning Portuguese, exploring music from different cultures...

지도 경험

I have worked as a teaching assistant in the language centres of a Chinese university and a British university, where I organised a lot of Chinese and English language teaching activities. I have also volunteered in some language exchange programmes, where I won an award for being an excellent language buddy. I have experience working with students from all over the world and I am good at understanding non-native Chinese speakers' Chinese. Last year, I passed the written exam for Mandarin teaching by CTCSOL.

I plan my lessons based on my student's individual needs. You are very welcome to contact me to talk about your request. Here are some possibilities of what our class would be like: 1. We can focus on one textbook, your word list or your own text, and we use it as a conversation generator instead of text to read. You might have no trouble with reading the text, but it's more important to really be able to talk about the topics of the texts and use the vocabulary flexibly. 2. We can watch a video together of your interest (e.g. Peppa Pig) and parse the sentences one by one. By the end, you will be able to understand and talk like the video. 3. We can play a game together talking in Chinese

Really enjoyed talking to Yidan today - she makes learning Chinese a lot of fun which is incredibly important, and even put together a really detailed document after the lesson, highlighting new vocabulary we had used and correcting mistakes that I had made during the class. She is bubbly and energic and I highly recommend her classes!
