I am a TEFL-qualified English teacher with many years of experience. I am also a polyglot, with advanced levels of ability in Japanese, Spanish, and Russian, and an intermediate level of Mandarin Chinese.Me as a Teacher
I teach English conversation to intermediate and advanced students, during which I make careful suggestions as to how students can improve the grammatical accuracy and idiomatic appropriateness of their spoken English. My strong understanding of Russian has enabled me to help many Russian-speakers in particular. I have heard every mistake Russians can make in English!
I also have a special interest in phonetics and phonology. I have a postgraduate education in this subject, and particularly enjoy working on pronunciation. Students looking for detailed feedback on their pronunciation should feel free to contact me.My lessons & teaching style

Sam is ideal for obtaining a British accent (RP). His postgraduate education in phonetics and phonology makes a difference. He explains how you should locate the tongue, jaw etc. to produce the required sound and is ready to demonstrate MRIs of natives pronouncing it. When I couldn’t grasp how to do a so-called happy-tensing, he taught me spectrograms and formants to let numbers speak for themselves. It helped a lot.
Sam speaks multiple languages. It is fascinating to discuss their differences with him and view my native language from a non-native perspective.

The lesson was ambiguous. It seems that Sam has a strong and deep expertise in English and is capable of explaining many concepts. However, in my experience, his teaching professionalism sometimes comes with an air of arrogance and condescension. He can offer a lot of useful insights, provided you are comfortable with such behavior.
