Hello there! My name is Hillary, and I’m a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker from Canton, China. I’m an out-going and open-minded person! In my spare time, I love reading, writing, singing, learning new languages and travelling. Cafes are my home during the weekends!
My favourite country is Japan!!! Currently learning Spanish and Japanese at the same time (I love both of them!!!). Looking forward to seeing you in my lesson!
Ich als Lehrkraft
I had experiences of helping foreigners learn and practise Chinese and understand Chinese culture (especially Cantonese culture haha!). When it comes to learning a language, understanding the culture plays a very important part. So during the classes, I will introduce both traditional and modern Chinese/ Cantonese culture, during which you will get to learn the native way of speaking Chinese.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
Before the class, I will first talk to you so as to understand your level and your need, and the lessons will be tailored according to your need.
For general lessons: In the first half of the class, I will use materials (articles, videos, news, etc.) to help you expand your vocabulary and improve your grammar. While in the second half of the class, we will focus on practice based on what you have just learnt. We can cover different topics every lesson.
For conversational lessons: I will prepare different topics and relevant materials from hobbies to current affairs for you to help you express your opinions in a native way and more confidently.
Hillary always has prepared lessons available with lots of structure if you want that, or as in my case, I prefer having free-style conversations with occasional use of prepared materials, for example, to handle reading exercises. All in all, I really love my lessons with Hillary. She is quite awesome!

I've been learning Chinese together with Hillary for about a year. All this time she's been an absolutely great teacher, always well-prepared, easy-going, patient and understanding, with extremely helpful personalized advice and additional materials. Every time we have a lesson, we have a lot of fun, which makes learning Chinese feel like a trip to the amusement park :D I definitely recommend her to anyone who's interested in learning this, or in fact any language! :)

Hillary is hands-down the best teacher I've had on italki, she might even be the best teacher I've had for anything ever. Hillary's really good at keeping the conversation fun and spontaneous - even when I'm stumbling through the language - and she's helped me massively improve my comprehension, speaking and vocabulary.
Hillary's fluency in English and skill at explaining concepts and meanings (in any language) is super helpful when I have more detailed questions or if I switch to English to say something.
When Hillary gives homework it's always interesting, and she has great vocab and grammar write-ups for heaps of Chinese short videos - my favourite so far is about Ding Zhen's World in Tibet. Also, if I need more time, Hillary's very chill about taking an extra week or so to study and discuss the homework, which helps me get a better grasp of the vocab and structures.
If you're looking for a Chinese teacher, I can't recommend Hillary enough!

Hillary is patient with me even when the only time I can find is after a long work day, haha. I appreciate the studious lessons.

Kylan is an awesome teacher! Although Cantonese is a difficult language to learn, Kylan's teaching style is both fun and effective.

Hillary and I had a very deep and thorough conversation about how the presidential election ensued and the implications for the future. There were many great new vocabulary words. Hillary, thanks so much!
